‘Manual Frisking’ Horror South Korean Tourist Kim Sung Kyung Molested at Bengaluru Airport; Air India Staffer Arrested

banglore airport scandal

BENGALURU In a shocking breach of international trust and passenger safety, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) has become the center of a “national shame” incident. As an editor, I see this not just as a criminal act, but as a catastrophic failure of the systems meant to protect our guests. An incident that has tarnished the image of India’s aviation security, a 32 year old South Korean businesswoman, Kim Sung Kyung, was allegedly sexually harassed and molested by a ground staff member at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA). The trauma unfolded on Monday, January 19, 2026, inside Terminal 2, shortly after the victim had cleared official immigration and security checks.

The accused, identified as Mohammed Affann Ahmed (25), an employee of AISATS (Air India SATS), has been arrested and terminated from his position.

The ‘Beeping’ Trap Anatomy of a Betrayal

According to the FIR registered at the KIAL Airport Police Station, the incident was a calculated misuse of authority.

  • The Pretext: Ahmed approached Kim after she had cleared CISF security, claiming her check-in baggage had emitted a “beeping sound.”
  • The Alternative: He allegedly told her that a formal counter-check would cause her to miss her flight and suggested an “alternative” manual frisking.
  • The Men’s Washroom: Under this guise, he led the victim to a secluded area near the men’s washroom, where he reportedly touched her chest and private parts repeatedly. In a chilling final act of audacity, he allegedly hugged her and said, “OK, thank you,” before walking away.

‘He Took My Dignity, Not My Love for India’

In a rare move of courage, Kim Sung Kyung consented to reveal her identity to the media to ensure no other woman suffers the same fate.

“He took me near the men’s washroom… it was inappropriate and scary,” she stated. Remarkably, she added that while this individual act was “unpardonable,” it has not destroyed her overall perception of India, though she demanded a “comprehensive inquiry” into airport safeguards.

The Security Vacuum: Unauthorized ‘Checks’

The investigation has revealed a glaring loophole in terminal management.

  • No Authority: Airport authorities confirmed that Ahmed, as ground-handling staff, had zero authority to conduct physical frisks.
  • The Protocol: Any suspicion regarding a passenger must be handled by authorized CISF personnel, with female passengers being checked exclusively by female officers in designated enclosures.
  • CCTV Confirmation: Police have reviewed CCTV footage which corroborates Kim’s account, showing Ahmed leading her toward the secluded restroom area.

AISATS Responds ‘Unpardonable Incident’

Following the outcry, AISATS issued a formal apology and confirmed the immediate termination of the accused. “We deeply regret the emotional distress caused to the guest… a comprehensive inquiry is underway to prevent any recurrence,” the spokesperson stated. Ahmed is currently in judicial custody at Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.
